On the surface these projects look like arts and crafts; however to the Occupational Therapist in training at Clarkson University they are case studies into how to improve the lives of those that need it most.
The act of being creative is a process that has steps that may present issues for some people. Imagine trying to cut and measure a wooden box without the use of one hand. Imagine trying to sew with shaking hands. What if you had issues with touch and feeling? This is how an occupational therapist analyzes the issues involved with getting people back to doing what they love to do.
The students had to become familiar with arts and crafts, as well as think about how best to help others complete the same project.
